Soundscape
~~~~
The soundscape follows a suspenseful moment where someone is searching for another person who is hiding. As the seeker walks through a quiet space, the tension builds. They stop to listen carefully, then suddenly take off running after hearing a sound and spotting the hider. The story is meant to make the listener feel tense, like something is about to happen at any moment.
To create this soundscape, I recorded all my own sounds. The walking sound was made by tapping a light shoe on a wooden surface heavily to make it sound realistic, moving it as if it really were someone walking. One of my favorite sounds was the sudden rustle that happens when the hider is found. I made that by the sounds of rubbing a wooden desk with a paper towel and editing it by raising the volume of the clip itself, making it sound more intense. I also added a quiet but thrilling background music to build suspense throughout the piece.
The most challenging part of this project was getting the timing right, especially making sure the sounds changed smoothly from walking to stopping and then running. I really enjoyed experimenting with different objects to create sounds, and it was cool to see how everyday things could be used in creative ways.
I learned that sound alone can tell a full story and create emotion, even without visually seeing it. This project helped me understand how important sound is in storytelling and how it can bring scenes to life. Therefore, what I learned can be applied to future assignments to improve and better the quality of my work.
